MikeA's latest tasting notes

2000 Flowers - Pinot Noir Camp Meeting Ridge
drinking nicely. a bit of seashore/saline (?) on the initial nose that blew off after a bit. earthy and spicy without some subtle cherry fruit in the background. not one for many years to come but fun to taste.

2002 Aubert - Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard
Beautiful wine. Pleasantly surprised given how bad the recent bottle of 02 Quarry was. This hides the alcohol and is rich, but has just enough vibrancy left to keep it lively. Certainly not a small wine, but very well balanced. Rich and racy all together in one. Yum

1996 Bollinger - RD
Still a huge wine that needs time. The pinot power comes through as the clearly dominant one. Fun to taste but not at all ready. Wait

2002 Aubert - Chardonnay Quarry Vineyard
very disappointing. seems almost hot on the finish from the alcohol nearly undrinkable. a bad bottle? i hope so. blech

1994 Phelps, Joseph - Cabernet Sauvignon Backus Vineyard
Gorgeous wine. Fully bodied and tons of black fruits. Still a bit of a baby I'm shocked to say. Well integrated tannins but plenty of hearty life left in this wine. Not sure it gets any better than this but I think it has another 15+ years of life easily.

1999 Patz & Hall - Pinot Noir Hyde Vineyard
Rich, ripe, deep, dark, succulent, spicy, juicy, perfect. Couldn't be better. Our last bottle unfortunately but one we will remember.

1994 Bryant Family - Cabernet Sauvignon (Pritchard Hill)
red rasberry on the nose. firm ripe tannins still showing a lot of youth. wouldn't have guessed 14 years old. delicious

NV Vilmart et Cie - Grand Cellier 1er Cru
rich and and almost thick for a champagne. the bubbles provide just enough to keep in refreshing but this is more "wine" than pure bubbly. very interesting and unique

NV Diebolt-Vallois - Brut Blanc de Blancs
big and rich. wouldn't have guessed a bdb until it warmed up quite a bit. A big wine that reminded me of yellow label veuve. Great stuff
